Gore-Tex® Expanded PTFE

Sampson Gaskets Limited are pleased to have been appointed as a distributor for W L Gore and Associate products.
Gore Products

A brief description is given below

GORE-TEX GR® Style R sheet gasketing is manufactured using Gore's unique proprietary expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) process. Its multidirectional strength inhibits creep and cold flow and also limits the possibility of blow out. GORE-TEX GR® Style R sheet gasketing is a development based on GORE-TEX GR® sheet gasketing. It provides a 6 fold increase in bend resistance making large gaskets considerably easier to handle. GORE-TEX GR® Style R gaskets are ideal for installation in difficult pipeline locations. GORE-TEX GR® Style R sheet gasketing is suitable for rough or damaged flange faces. Once installed, gaskets cut from this material seldom need retorquing and give long lasting performance. Universal chemical resistance allows GORE-TEX GR® Style R sheet to be used in virtually any application. Excellent results can be achieved with limited bolt-forces and irregular or fragile flanges, e.g. glass or plastic.

TECHNICAL DATA

Material : 100% expanded PTFE with high multi-directional tensile strength. Free from asbestos and any other lung damaging component.
Temperature Range : -240ºC to +270ºC : to +315oC for short periods
Chemical Resistance : Resistant to all media, except molten alkali metals and elemental fluorine, particularly at elevated temperatures & pressures, pH 0-14
Stability : GORE-TEX GR® Style R sheet gasketing is not subject to ageing and can be stored indefinitely.
Maximum Permissible Gasket Stress :
150 MPa
Operating Pressure Vacuum : to 210 bar (3000 psi)

GORE-TEX DF joint sealant manufactured using Gore's patented expanded PTFE process has an expanded fibre structure providing excellent mechanical advantages. Despite the materials conformability, it still remains stable at high pressures.

TECHNICAL DATA

Material : Virgin PTFE (to VDE-VDI-2480) in cord form
Operating Temperature Range : -240ºC to +270ºC (to 315ºC for short periods)
Chemical Resistance : Resistant to all media in the range 0-l4pH, except molten alkali metals and elemental fluorine.
Pressure Limit : To 210 bar (3000 psi)
Vacuum Performance : Helium leak rate 6 x l 0(-8) mbar x 1 x s(-1) at p=1 bar
Matrix Tensile Strength : Ca 50 N/mm (7500 psi)
Availability : Supplied in nine different sizes. It comes with a self adhesive strip to aid location and is available in different spool lengths. (details on request).
The following advantages make GORE-TEX DF joint sealant economical to use. universal installation - long lasting - high reliability - easy installation - no waste.
Approvals : TUV Prüf-Nr. MP2/89 33-1-85, BOC - oxygen service (special version), DVGW Reg - Nr G SOeDl7, WRC - 8012MX, British Coal A2316

GORE TAPE PRODUCTS are the third generation of PTFE form-in-place gasketing. This material is a multi-directionally orientated form-in-place gasket which has high tensile strength in both transverse and longitudinal directions resulting in very low relaxation properties. Due to the high strength in the transverse direction, the gasket profile does not have the tendency to increase in width during precompression and service, even at elevated temperatures.

TECHNICAL DATA

Material : 100% expanded PTFE with high multi-directional tensile strength
Operating Temperature Range : -240ºC to +270ºC(to+315ºC for short periods)
Chemical Resistance : Resistant to all media in the range 0-14pH, except molten alkali metals and elemental fluorine, particularly at elevated
temperatures
Stability : Not subject to ageing and storage life is limited only by the adhesive backing. A shelf life of no more than two years is recommended.
Maximum Permissible Gasket Stress : 150 MPa
Typical Applications : Glass lined vessels, glass lined reactors, pressure filters, large pressure vessels, large directional flanges with severe irregularities and heat exchangers.
Size Selection & Installation : GORE TAPE has a self-adhesive backing strip on one side for fixing on the flange during installation. For standard steel flanges the gasket width should be as close as possible to the width of the sealing surface. For optimum sealability the available bolt force and the flange design should also be taken into consideration when selecting the correct gasket width. The optimum thickness of the tape is three times the maximum irregularity of the sealing surface, For glass-lined steel flanges the gasket tape width should be equal to, or greater than, the full width of the glass lined flange.
